On Friday June 22nd
2007, the president, Christian Mourisard, went to Lodz, , to support the candidature of the city to become a European Capital of Culture in 2016.
How did we enter in contact with the city of Lodz ?
We met Mrs. Hanna Zdanowska, vice-mayor of Lodz and Mrs Dominika Ostrowska, representative of the city of Lodz in Brussels, during our latest
AVEC general assembly in Tours, March 2007.
The diversity of project presented by the City of Lodz seemed very interesting and matching the objectives and values of the European Cities of Culture. We thus wanted to cooperate with the
city.
We kept in touch with the city and we hope to see Lodz join our network soon.
Why do we support the
application of Lodz as a Euopean capital of culture in 2016?
Lodz is one of the most significant culture centres in Poland. The huge industrial metropolis of the 19th century is now again experiencing the fastest development
among Polish cities.
The city runs a strong cultural policy by supporting local and international artists, helping cultural companies in the fields of cinema, modern art and music.
Lodz is also a city of festivals. Each year, the city hosts international events among the biggest are the Festival of the Dialogue of Four Cultures, including Camerimage and Lodz Biennial, the
Explorers Festival, the Festival of Photography or the International Comic Strip Festival…
A network of historical cities
AVEC coaches local policies and administrations to help them reach a high level of quality and professional skills for the sustainable development of the city.
For this reason, we support Lodz for 2016. We know that this event will enable the local government to enhance their vision of a sustainable and living city.
Projects will be reinforced or developed at this occasion, aiming at sharing and valorizing culture and heritage, and trying to maintain an economic growth in the future. Here is one of our
motto: it is not enough to create an event but it must have a long lasting impact for every one.
